Girl with the yellow balloon

Girl with the yellow balloon,
Sleeping in her father's lap,
Holding the balloon tight in her hand,
Perfect moment for a snap.

Looks like she's watching a dream,
That subtle smile on her face,
Balloon in one hand, dad's finger in the other,
A perfect moment to embrace.

I think she went to that fair near the temple,
White ribbons and a pink frock,
Eyes twinkling with the lights around,
People around in a flock.

The subtle smile goes,
That tiny tear at the corner of her eye,
Looks like she is missing her mom,
Want this moment to just die.

Father trying to wake her up,
Home seems to be near,
Still holding the yellow balloon in her hand,
I see the one tiny little tear disappera...

ruthless questions and a blank mind...
crossing the fingers, untying the knots...
balloon in the air,on that mysterious journey...
strings of guitar and notes turning up,melodies in the making...
have I heard that song before?
I guess I have...
He sang it for me...
have I been on that journey ever?
I guess I have...
He walked along with me...
Did I cross my fingers at that moment?
I guess I did...
He uncrossed it for me...
Did I ever have a blank mind?
I guess I didn't...
just to watch a beautiful dream...

The dark side...

The dark side of me...
looks like me though...
but is that me...?
don't think so...
trying to find the difference in similarity...
but failing to have that clarity...
do the dark sides come at night...?
don't think so...
looks more like a passing thought...
I can see the shadows only when there's light around...

Birthdays...

Diamonds, Rubies, Emeralds and Pearls,

Chocolate Cakes n' Icecream Swirls,

Gift boxes square n' round,

so many in the hiding, waiting to be found,

Games n' Prizes,Friends in all sizes,

Whatta B'day bash it used to be!

Life so easy, mind so free,

take me back, I want more...

relive the moment and grab a score!

dark sunshine, rusted gold...

layered stories,waiting to unfold...

missing links,chained thoughts...

what IFs,what IF NOTs...

white, black or grey,

but someone has to say...

say it out and say it loud,

raise the head and face the crowd...

The sunny afternoon on a cold day,
The chilly wind makes her sway,
She sways with her thoughts,
And the thoughts sway with the wait,
Waiting for the wind to stop,
And the winter holding the sunshine in a lock,
Locking the warmth forever,
Locking the life of trees as never,
How many winters will it take?
How many trees will be at stake?
She knows, it won’t be many…

Drop...

Dew drop in the sunlight,
Drops forming rains, showing their might,
Drop in the eye, about to fall…
The held drop that says it all…
People fighting for that drop to drink,
Farmer staring in the sky sans a wink,
Drops together rising in a tide,
Life running around finding a place to hide…
Drops on the forehead after a hard day,
Digging shortcuts leaving the drops astray…
Are we done, or still something is left?
Do we see the light or the darkness has crept?
Wake up and hold the drop,
Hold it tight till you drop,
Let it go and lose it forever,
Act quick, its’ gonna be now or never…

dormant roots...

This one was a combo of me and Jags composing together!!

Can you fly high holding your roots?

maybe you can, if your dreams have wings,

And these roots of stone spread the deepest cracks,

in parched groundholding for ever the dream of fruit,

and in those deepest of cracks, lie the deepest of wounds,

that'll never see the light of the day...

will just lie there in the cracks,

will just die there in those cracks...

and yet the roots remain...these forgotten roots,

lost of purpose that once destined to sustain,

hardly pertinent...keep feeding memories,

hunger is avaricious...and yet they remain as strong as ever..stay rooted,

it ought to get worse, unless...

unless a shower soaks these roots, nurtures it back to life...

giving back to the world a beautiful plant,

a plant that the sun had scorched down back in time...

but the roots remained...dormant...but alive...

Daffodils

Watched The Namesake today…there are some movies that are simply beautiful…this is one of those…my favorite…its’ one of the movies that has done justice to the book (The Kite Runner was a complete disappointment!) Through the movie emotions just flow so effortlessly…watching the movie is an experience in itself…I first thought of writing down my favorite scenes in the movie, but then realized in case of Namesake, I’ll be covering pretty much the whole movie…after the movie, the first thing I did was googling the poem “Daffodils” by William Wordsworth…

"Daffodils"

I WANDER'D lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thoughtWhat wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,And dances with the daffodils.

And if anyone of you hasn’t seen the movie, then read the book first and then watch the movie. I can bet that you won’t be disappointed…

I win...

I get up and its’ still dark…
Shadows of the past all around me…
I am trying to catch the shadows…
And the shadows trying to catch me…
Don’t know when this game started…
Don’t know when I became a part of it…
But its’ not just me who’s playing this game…
Its’ not just me who wants to win this game…
And there I see is the end of it…
‘coz there I see is the dawn…
the rays have pierced the dark…
taking me towards the morning…
taking me where I belong…
holding my hand and guiding me along…
and I finally I win the game…
‘coz the shadows are behind me…
and all ahead of me is light…

help me find this poem...:)

its' not once...not twice...but has happened more than often....where I just happened to surf the net...visiting sites, reading stuff...and came across poems that happened to be my favorties...and then I thought some of the poems that I read in my schooldays....one such is Solitary Reaper by William Wordsworth that I read in my VI Std. and is one of my favorites....

Solitary Reaper

BEHOLD her, single in the field,
Yon solitary Highland Lass!
Reaping and singing by herself;
Stop here, or gently pass!
Alone she cuts and binds the grain,
And sings a melancholy strain;
O listen! for the Vale profound
Is overflowing with the sound.

No Nightingale did ever chaunt
More welcome notes to weary bands
Of travellers in some shady haunt,
Among Arabian sands:
A voice so thrilling ne'er was heard
In spring-time from the Cuckoo-bird,
Breaking the silence of the seas
Among the farthest Hebrides.

Will no one tell me what she sings?—
Perhaps the plaintive numbers flow
For old, unhappy, far-off things,
And battles long ago:
Or is it some more humble lay,
Familiar matter of to-day?
Some natural sorrow, loss, or pain,
That has been, and may be again?
Whate'er the theme, the Maiden sang
As if her song could have no ending;
I saw her singing at her work,
And o'er the sickle bending;—
I listen'd, motionless and still;
And, as I mounted up the hill,
The music in my heart I bore,
Long after it was heard no more.

There's one other poem called "Simon Snoot's Whiskers" that I had read in my VIII Std. and remember as one of the poems that made me understand what similies were!!! I have searched the net thoroughly for this poem but failed :( Anyone of you reading this if at all happens to find the poem "Simon Snoot's Whiskers"...do let me know!!

can't come up with a title...

I sit and I wonder...
I am moving ahead...but I wanna stop for a while...
I look back and I smile...
so many years have just passed by...
fail to stop them however hard I try...
school and college getting over in a flick...
and time was just playing its' trick...
and before I realized...
Here I am in a new country...
all mesimerized...
still pinch myself to find everything around me is for real...
miss my home...but got one over here...
miss mum, dad, family n' friends...
but getting to know things that are new and trying to comprehend...
feeling amused as life unfolds...
experiencing the new and cherishing the old...
and waiting for the next day with some new stories to be told...

Something...

Something I see…
Something I like…
Something I want…
Something I desire…
Something I remember…
Something I cherish...
I cry for something…
I smile for something…
I look for something…
I crave for something…
I dream for something…
I wait for something…
I am living for something…
I’ll die for something…
I wish I’ll be remembered for something…
I hope I’ll be missed for something…

Gone...

There he comes…
And stands in front of her…
They meet…
They talk…
And she falls in love…
He goes back…
She waits for him to come…
And take her away…
She waits…
and she waits….
But he never comes back…
He was gone…with his love…
All she feels now is amused!
Why can’t she be like her…
Why couldn’t he love her…
But then not all questions have answers…
Like all deserts don’t have showers…
All she feels now is amused…

hearts...

I wrote his name on the sand…
the waves came and washed it away…
I wrote it again with my hand…
But it wasn’t there to stay…
Why can’t the hearts be just like sand…
Where you write names and the waves just wash them away…
But then its’ only hearts that can love…
Let the heart love, lose and love again…
‘coz it likes to take the pain…pain of losing…
And only the heart can find it back again…all over again…

The Most Beautiful Flower

One of my friends had sent this across....its' beautiful....

The park bench was deserted
as I sat down to read,
Beneath the long, straggly branches
of an old willow tree.
Disillusioned by life with good reason to frown,
For the world was intent
on dragging me down.
And if that weren't enough to ruin my day,
A young boy out of breath approached me,
all tired from play.
He stood right before me
with his head tilted down,
And said with great excitement,
"Look what I found!"
In his hand was a flower,
and what a pitiful sight,
With its petals all worn down
not enough rain, or too little light,
Wanting him to take his dead flower
and go off to play,
I faked a smile and then shifted away.
But instead of retreating
he sat next to my side,
And placed the flower to his nose and declared
with overacted surprise,
"It smells pretty and it's beautiful too.
That's why I picked it; here it's for you!"
The weed before me was dying or dead.
Not vibrant of colours, orange, yellow or red.
But I knew I must take it,
or he might never leave.
So I reached for the flower and replied,
"Just what I need."
But instead of him placing the flower
in my hand,
He held it mid-air without reason or plan.
It was then that I noticed
for the very first time,
That the weed-toting boy could not see,
he was blind.
I heard my voice quiver,
tears shone like the sun,
As I thanked him for picking
the very best one.
"You're welcome" he smiled
and then ran off to play,
Unaware of the impact he's had on my day.
I sat there and wondered
how he managed to see,
A self-pitying woman
beneath an old willow tree.
How did he know about
my self-indulged plight?
Perhaps from his heart, he'd been
blessed with true sight.
Through the eyes of a blind child,
at last I could see,
The problem was not with the world;
the problem was me.
And for all of those times
I myself had been blind,
I vowed to see the beauty in life,
and appreciate every second that's mine.
And then I held that wilted flower
up to my nose and breathed in the fragrance
of a beautiful rose.
And I smiled as I watched that young boy,
another weed in his hand,
About to change the life
of an unsuspecting old man.

Around the corner...

Palak was a close friend…Suddenly I got a call where a common friend of ours told me that Palak got murdered…one of the greatest shocks of my life…thoughts went flashing back with the moments spent with him…we were in school for 14 years…pretty long time…happy moments, sad moments, small fights, birthday parties, Unit Tests in the school when Palak always cheated from my notebook….used to call me up before each exam to check out whether I was thoroughly prepared or not…school picnics…his affairs…I knew about all his girlfriends…his terrific smile…It was more of a Laughter than Smile…Palak always used to call me a month before my actual birthday….this time too he did that…and that was the last time I talked to him…I guess not everything can be put in words…

It was Palak’s birthday on 23rd ….this poem is dedicated to Palak…my school friend…

"Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end.

Yet days go by and weeks pass on,
And before I know a year is gone.

And never I see my friend’s face,
For life is a swift and terrible race.

He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days I rang his bell.

And he rings mine we were younger then,
And now we are a busy tired men.

Tired with playing a foolish game,
Tired with trying to make a name.

Tomorrow, I say, I will call on Jim,
Just to say I am thinking of him.

But tomorrow comes n’ tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows n’ grows.

Around the corner yet miles away,
And here is a telegram sir, Jim died today.

And this is what we deserve in the end,
Around the corner a vanished friend…"

Too Often...

Too often we don't realize
What we have until it is gone
Too often we wait too late to say
"I'm sorry - I was wrong."
Sometimes it seems we hurt the ones
We hold dearest to our hearts
And we allow foolish things
To tear our lives apart.
Far too many times we let
Unimportant things into our minds
And then it's usually too late
To see what made us blind.
So be sure that you let people know
How much they mean to you
Take that time to say the words
Before your time is through.
Be sure that you appreciate
Everything you've got
And be thankful for the little things
in life that mean a lot.

for all my friends...

I had composed this poem a couple of years back...when V5(Lulu, Pupu, Tutu, Yaya and Good Boy) were moving ahead taking their own paths in life...I still remember, I scribbled this poem on the tissue papers of Celebrations...our favourite hang out place...and handed it over to all of them...as a sweet Remembrance...

today I dedicate this poem to all the wonderful people I met in these years and who happen to be my friends...moments spent are still fresh in my mind...and the golden memories will be with me forever...

In the silence of the night,
there comes a thought about tomorrow,
Will we be together then, sharing our joys and sorrow?
The thoughts going down an abyss,
the “may be” and “may be not” lurking all around the place,
But in the midst of these uncertainties,
there is a belief, a firm belief in my heart.
No matter where we go,
we’ll take a little of each other everywhere.
No matter what we do,
we’ll be there for each other forever.
The bond of our friendship will always remain,
Radiant as the sunshine,
Fresh as the blossoms,
Soothing as the cool breeze.
I know and I believe,
It’ll always exist with an everlasting ease.

Winds of Change...

Winds of change…
Taking me along with them…
I don’t want to go…
But I am helpless…
Can’t I stop these winds from blowing?
Why can’t everything remain the same?
Friends and relations,
Thoughts and emotions,
Am I asking for too much…!?
No, I am not…
But I know I can’t get this…
‘coz winds are supposed to blow…
At times fast…at times slow…
I have to take it in my stride…
Can’t avoid the changes even if I hide…
So here I am standing tall…
And facing it all…
All I wish is a smile for everyone who thinks of me…

Is it too much to ask for??
I hope its’ not…
